BILL THROUGH COMMONS A VOLUMINOUS MEASURE United Press Association.— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, June 5. Iu the House of Commons, the Government of India, Bill was read a third time and passed. A Labour amendment for the rejection of the Bill on the ground that it did not go far enough in the direction of Dominion status was defeated by 386 votes to 122. The Bill is the biggest ever known in the British Parliament. It originally had 451 clauses and 15 schedules. It left the House of Commons tonight with 473 clauses and 16 schedules.
A Notable Achievement Beceived Thursday, 7 p.m. LONDON,. June 6. Commenting on the passage of. the India Bill through the Commons the Times says: “Not a measure in the history of the British Parliament has undergone more careful preparation and examination. The Government can be congratulated upon the readiness to accept all reasonable amendments. The Commons may well be proud of their achievement.
