Gift Evening for Ashhursf Bride-to-be

A large gathering of friends of Miss Eileen Nesdale and Mr. I. Loamy, why arc to be married shortly, honoured the young couple with a gift evening in the Ashhurst town hall last Friday, the function proving most enjoyable. The opening item was a song by Mrs. 0. Kerrigan, by special request, “Song of Songs’’ with violin accompaniment played by Mrs. S. Gough, her encore being “Here’s to Love and Laughter.’’ Miss Zita Loamy sang “Little Moonbeam,’’- and for her encore “Because,’ and Mr. A. Balmer contributed “Tho Donovons” and “Where Shannon Flows.” Air. W. N. Brewer made a presentation on behalf of tho ping pong and tennis clubs, and Mrs. E. McDonald, on behalf of tho residents o.t Awahou, Raumai, Pohangina and the Racing Club, also made presentations. Both tho speakers wished the couple the greatest of happinoss and prosperity in their future married life. Mr. Loamy expressed the thanks of Miss Nesdale and himself, and said that they greatly appreciated the honour paid them. The various parcels, on being opened, showed somo very useful and pretty gifts which were greatly admired by all. A professional orchestra supplied the music for the dancing, which continued till past mid night. The Monts Carlo was won by Miss Nesdale and Air. W. Smart.
