LINKS RECOVERING FROM FLOOD DAMAGE
The Feilding Golf Club's property is slowly recovering from tho damage it suffered during the recent flood, and only live holes arc playable. It is unlikely that the links will be available for competition play for at least another fortnight. At a meeting of the committee this week it was reported that tho links were gradually recovering but the work of clearing up those fairways that suffered mostly from the deposit of silt will take some time yet. In a discussion of tho flooding of tho links it was stated that this was not due to any weakness in the riverprotection work carried out by the club, but to the fact that the river rose somewhat higher than it had previously. In view of this it was decided to immediately commence the building of a stopbanlc along the river boundary of tho property from the Aorangi bridge to as far dorvn as is found to be practicable. A fairly solid structure is contemplated, and it is anticipated that this will, when completed, render the links reasonably immune from a repetition of such unfortunate inundations.
