Feilding Plunket Society

NEED FOR GREATER FINANCIAL SUPPORT

-With the object of attracting attention towards the necessity for greaterfinancial support for the Feilding branch of the Plunkct Nurse Society, a meeting rvas held on Monday night to consider a notice of motion that the Feilding organisation become a sub-branch of the Palmerston North Society. Mrs Mawhinney stated that she had prepared the motion solely with the object of attracting attention and in this action was representing members of the executive as well as being actuated by a desire to assist the secretary, Mrs V. Lawrence. Mr J. G. Eliott, chairman of the local advisory board, presided, and the meeting was attended by delegates from the , Sandon and Kiwitea-Kimbolton branches. After explaining the matter of the motion, ho said that the whole position was one of finance. The bal-ance-sheet disclosed that the year commenced with a credit of £G4 and closed with a credit of £52, which was sufficient to enable the society to carry on for two months.

Mrs M. D. Colquhoun said the position was not a crisis. It -was only a matter of getting over a lean period. The chairman, in answer to a question, said no suggestion had come from Palmerston North, whose society had had to retrench in certain ways, and he feared that if Feilding became a sub-branch the work hero would not receivo the attention it was getting under the present system. Mrs J. H. Perrctt said Feilding should do better and get more support from the public. The Sandon subbranch had had a very successful effort and was in a good financial position.

Mr G. J. Fitzpatrick said the credit balance was only £l2 less than last year. Mr E. Fair suggested that they ask the Chamber of Commerce to help them in some financial enterprise. Mr J. H. Perrctt was very surprised to hear of any proposal to go to Palmerston North. It was not like Feilding. The local executive should get better support from the public and would have to work harder. Mrs C. E. Taylor (patroness) assured the meeting that the members of the executive had worked very hard, and it was not the fault of the members that they were in this difficulty. The chairman moved that the meeting recommend the annual meeting to not support the motion of notice. He thought they could bridge the gap all right. The Borough Council might be persuaded to pay over its donation early in the financial year, as soon as the estimates were adopted, and that would be a help. The chairman’s motion, seconded by Mrs F. A. Mason, was carried unanimously.
