Anderson, and two natives were found alive in the fifteenth level of the new Machavio gold mine at Potchcfstroom. The rescuing party had been working feverishly to reach two white miners and forty natives who were trapped when the mine was re-opened owing to water suddenly rushing through. The men were found in a box hole, which was below water level, but imprisoned air had kept back the flood and enabled the men to breathe. The rescue party subsequently found the other European and several natives dead. There is no hope now for the rest.
