HOPMAN BEATEN IN CHAMPIONSHIPS United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Friday, J 1.4 p.m. ROME, April IS. In the Italian tennis championships Canepelc, a young Italian, defeated Hopinan (Australia), G —4, 4 —G, G—3, 3 —G, G —3. The Australian Davis Cup players, who practiced for the first time to-day, will play at Monte Carlo on April 2G and 30 in doubles and mixed doubles only. Thence they will proceed direct to Eastbourne for their cup tic against New Zealand.
