Seasonal Entries at Addington Market

TAT AND STORE SHEEP SELL WELL

CHRISTCHURCH, March 20

Nominal seasonal entries were the rule at to-day’s Addington market. There was a good sale for both fat and store sheep. Store ewes.—There were heavy entries, with a few better lines. Values for sound mouthed ewes were up by Is Gd to 2s a head on last week, the strong demand at the ewe fairs and good rains firming the market. Best two-tooths made to 33s 3d and sound mouthed to 22s 3d. Many pens of the latter exceeded 20s.

Fat lambs. —There was a slightly easier sale for light lambs. Best made to 26s lOd, heavy 22s Gd to 255, others 15s Gd to 225.

Fat sheep.—A total of 4100 were penned and there was a good sale, heavy ewes being up by 2s a head and export by a shilling. Wethers also improved by a shilling a head. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers to 30s 4d, prime heavy 26s to 2Ss Gd, prime medium weight 23s to 255, medium quality 20s Gd to 22s Gd, light 15s to ISs Cd; extra prime heavy ewes to 255, prime heavy 20s to 23s Gd, prime medium weight 16s Gd to 19s Gd, ordinary 12s Gd to 16s, light and aged 10s to 12s.

Fat cattle.—A total of 525 were penned and consisted mostly of light steers and inferior cows. For tho few good pens of steers, cows and heifers there was a free sale at last week’s prices but a big proportion of inferior cattle were down by 10s to 15s a head. Values were. Extra prime heavy steers to £ll 7s Gd, prime heavy £S 10s to £9 15s, medium weight primo £7 10s to £9, ordinary £4 to £7, light to £3 15s; extra primo heifers to £S 17s Gd, primo £4 10s to £6 10s, ordinary £3 5s to £4 ss, light to £3; extra prime cows to £7 12s 6d, prime £4 to £6, ordinary £2 5s to £3 15s, light and aged to £2 10s. Fat pigs.—Thero was a medium entry in tho fat pig section and a good demand .throughout, porkers being very firm, with an increase in values. Choppers brought from £2 to £4 10s Cd, baconers 50s to 57s Gd, heavy £3 to £3 7s Gd, extra heavy to £3 14s Gd, average price per lb. 5Jd to Gd; porkers 35s to £2, heavy £2 2s to £2 7s Gd, average price per lb. 6-1 d to 7d.
