Sir Alexander Herdmau lias communicated to the Government his desire to rctiro from the Supreme Court Bench. It is understood Cabinet has accepted the resignation and that His Honour will vacate his office in about three months’ time. Sir Alexander Herdman is senior Judgo of the Supreme Court, to which he was appointed in 191 S. After service on local bodies in Otago he became M.H.'R. for Mt. Ida, 1902-5, and afterwards practised his profession in Wellington. He became M.P. for Wellington North, 1908-IS, Attorney-General 1912-18, and Minister of Justice, 1912-15. He resigned from the National Ministry to join the Supreme Court Bench.
