South Auckland Bowlers Invade City

PLAY ON PALMERSTON NORTH AND TAKARO GREENS.

Yesterday. twelve rinks from the South Auckland Bowling Centre, who have been on tour through Hawke’s Bay and other districts, visited Palmerston North and engaged representative rinks from tho majority of clubs in the Manawatu centre. Play was located on the Palmerston North and Takaro Club greens, both of them being in good order though slightly lieavv after recent,-heavy rains. The visitors were met on their .approach to the city by Mr J. J. O’Shea, vice-president of the Manawatu Centre, and Mr Wimsett (secretary). At the Palmerston North Club green the players were welcomed by Mr O’Shea and by Mr C. L. Mowlem, on behalf of the club. Pleasure was expressed that the tourists had found it possible to include this city in their round trip. The reply was made by Mr P. H. Rowe, president of the South Auckland Centre, who i nreturning thanks for the hospitality presented to the president of each of the Manawatu clubs, and also to Mr Wimsett, a souvenir badge. At Takaro a welcome was extended by Mr A. G. Cooksley, president of the club, while the visitors thanks were voiced by Mr Nortli who also offered souvenir badges. Following are details of the play. Foxton: J. Christie, Ross, D. Christie, Mattar (s.) lost to Matuska, Roberts, Gunn, Todd (s.) 21—23. Palmerston North: Morris, Boon, Lawson, N. H. The visitors were ahead in the match aggregate by 12 points. Entertainment of Ladies. Accompanying the touring rinks was a party of 22 ladies, and yesterday afternoon they were taken for a drive round the city, including Massey College, the Esplanade, Shailer’s nurseries, and Just’s gardens and museum. The visitors had a busy programme yesterday, tor prio’ U. their arrival in Palmerston North they had spent the morning in Woodville and Danncvirke engaged in a match with Southern Hawke’s Bay. Again twelve rinks were engaged, four playing in Dannevirko and eight in Woodville.
