Aokautere
From Our Own Correspondent. Tho annual meeting of the Aokautere Miniature Rifle Club was held last Friday, with a good attendance of members. After the usual formal business, the election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. J. Linklater, M.P.; president, Mr. J. Smith; vicepresidents, Messrs. M. Kvistensen; J. Knight, S. Lankshear, R. Scott, F. Judd, W. Anderson, F. Andrews, W. R. Hopcroft, L. Craven, J. Hastings, J. P. Robertson, S. Gilshnan, A. Ferguson, J. Kyle and A. Clausen; secretary, Mr. L. Craven; treasurer, Mr. M. Kristensen; club captain, Mr. L. Hastings; delegates. Messrs. L. Hastings, L. Craven and W. R. Hopcroft; auditor, Mr. J. J. Knight. The president read a letter from the retiring secretary, Mr. A. S. Hopcroft,'' who on account of absence in Australia, is unable to accept office this year. It was decided that a letter be sent to Mr. Hopcroft and that the club’s appreciation of his services as secretary since the club's inception, be placed on record. It was decided that the opening night be Monday, March 18. The offer of donations of trophies for this year’s shooting, by Messrs. Hopcroft, Smith and Craven, was accepted with thanks. Other items of organisation were discussed. Tho Harvest Festival Service of the Anglican Church was held on Sunday afternoon. Canon Woodward, assisted by Rev. Ball, conducted the service. Canon Woodward based his sermon on tho text, "For Ho maketh His sun to shine and sendeth rain.” The singing, led by the choir of All Saints’ Church, was greatly appreciated by the congregation. Thanks are due to donors of the llowers and produce, which will be forwarded to the All Saints’ Children’s Home.
