A friendly cricket match was played at Terrace End on Tuesday last when a team representing the I’ohangina Club met a team representing Dalgety and Co. and Loan and Mercantile Co. Pohangina proved the stronger team, winning by 123 runs, the scores being Pohangina 274 and stock firms 151. The town players proved excellent hosts, serving afternoon tea and entertaining their country guests. The day was very hot and kept fine until 3 p.m. when a very short heavy shower fell preventing play for a short time. A euchre tournament to assist the funds of the local table tennis club was held last Friday evening, there being only a fair attendance. Mrs. W. Davey was successful In winning the ladles’ prize, Mrs. J. Burmeister being second. A play-off was necessary between the men finalists and resulted in Mr. Clegg being first with Mr. S. Burmeister second. The competition box of chocolates was also annexed by Mr. S. Burmeister.
