From Our Own Correspondent. Tho annual meeting of the Longburn Miniature Rifle Club was held on Monday night when Air. W, Birch presided over a good attendance. Apologies for absence were received from the president Mr. F. Birch, and Air. W. Kells. After the annual report and balance sheet had been adopted the election of officers was held and resulted as follows:—Patron, Air. A. Matheson; president, Mr. F. Birch; vicepresidents, Messrs. W. Kells, A. Nicol, F. Brockliss, E. Lemberg, J. Callesen, C. Cooksley, J. Mahoney, If. Searancke and A. Oliver;, secretary. Air. J. Aldersley; club captain, Air. W. Birch; vice-captain, Air. W. Grace; committee, Alessrs. E. Jewell, H. Aiabey, R. Cooksley, C. Francis, Airs. Godfrey and Miss R. Birch; handicapper: Air. H. Aiabey; selector, Air.' W. Birch; the appointment of the delegates to the M.M.R.A. was left in the hands of the committee; coaches, Alessrs. W. Birch, H. Aiabey and W. Matheson; range officers, Alessrs. R. Cooksley and R. Baton; target officers, Alessrs F. Alahoney, A. Fisher and <j. Francis; target markers, Alessrs'. E. Jewell and N. Woodill. It was decided to increase tho prize for the weekly competition, the first two prizes to be donated by Air. G. Hoffman and the second two by Mr. W. Grace. It was arranged to hold the opening shoot on March 18. On the motion of the chairman it was decided to place on record the excellent work done by the secretary during the past season - . The following is the report of the club for the 1934 season;—“The past season was rather successful tor the club, the membership showing a good improvement on the previous season. Although they lost the City and Hansen Association team’s cups, through being transferred to the northern section, the B team was unfortunate in tiot winning the Ciiffe-Rem-ington cup. being beaten by Linton in the shoot-off.

“During the season a motion was passed that ladies should be allowed to join the club, and those who joined recorded some good scores. Aliss R. Birch was successful ,in winning tiie ladies’ four-night aggregate cup presented by Air. W. Kells. Air. E. Jewell won the cup for the most improved shot, which was also donated by Mr. Kells. The Cooksley cup was won again by Air. W. Birch, who has now held it for the past three seasons. The number of entries for the local club championship shows the keenness of the members and there were some good scores registered. The A grade championship was won by Air. ,r. Aldersley after a shoot-off with Air. YV. Birch, second, and Air. W. Sutherland finished third. Tho B grade champions proved to be Air. R. Paton with Air. R. Cooksley runner-up, while the C grade went to Air. J. Alardon. Some of the members also entered for the Now Zealand and Alanawatu championships, and met with fair success. To conclude the season, Longburn shot a friendly match with Levin, and it was arranged that this shoot should become an annual match. The club showed a good improvement as a whole and it is likely that they will improve considerably in the coming season.” Cricket. The following is the result of a cricket match played between Longburn and Whakarongo which, owing to the humpy nature of the pitch, was productive of low scoring.— Whakarongo, first Innings: S. The Longburn tennis team visited the Feilding club on Saturday, tiie home side proving to be the winners by 10 sets and 113 games to G sets and 81 games. Sunday School Picnic.

Tne Longburn Alethodist Sunday School held their annual picnic at the home of Air. and Airs. Zurcher, on Saturday last. The time was spent playing games and running races. Lunch and afternoon tea were served under the shady trees, and a lolly scramble tvas held for the smaller ones. The Rev. and Mrs. Richards were present and also many of the mothers and a number of visitors. Before leaving Rev. Richards proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Air. and Airs. Zurcher for the use of his grounds and also to the Sunday school teachers for the work they had done to make the afternoon such a success. Tiie following are the results of the races:—s-7yrs: June Oke 1, Billy Hill 2; 7-9 yrs girls: Dulcio Hill" 1, Noeline Bee 2; 7~9yrs, boys: John Oke 1, David Richards 2; girls 9yrs and under: Eunice Oke 1, Nancy Wing 2; boys llyrs and under: Stanley Oke 1, Leslie Mitchell 2; girls 13yrs: Kathleen Hill t, Daphne Oke 2; boys 13yra and under: Basil Sonfiison 1, Alton Wilson 2; any age: Leslie Mitchell 1, Stanley Oke 2; consolation: Gwen Bennett 3, Mavis Lepper 2; ladies' race: Violet Zurcher 1, Mrs. Hill 2. General. The Alethodist Church will commence their Bible classes on Tuesday next. Mr. Jack Cullen, of Napier, is the guest of Mrs. Zurcher. Mr. Y. Screech, of Alasterton, spent the week-end at Longburn as the guest of Mr. and Airs. Birch.
