Rangitikei Meeting Has Drawn Good Fields

Interesting Racing is Assured For To-day

The Rapgitikei Racing .Club’s p on the Bulls racec.ourse to-day and evi for the club and an enjoyable day for have been received for the seven eve: better order than it is at present. Trial Plate. TJie pj’ogramjjio will be opened at J2..3.0 p.m. witfi the Trial Plate over sis furlongs. There are 16 on the card and although there is always the chance of a surprise in a maiden event, recent form may incline the punters towards Chief Lady, Hunting Scene and Bazaine. Sandon Highweigbt. Next on the card is the Sandon Highweight. The Awapuni-trained Bold Jim has pride of place and after his Woodvillo win he is bound to have a following. Jayson has not raced for some time but ho looks well and others wiio must bo taken into account are Roy.aJ Record, Hoadland and Stroller. When the machine closes it may be found that tho public have gone for Bold Jim, Jayson and Royal Recprd. Ohakea Hack Handicap. Ten have been carded for the Ohakea Hack and a good race should result with the issue very open. Arena, Secrecy, Collodion, Abbey Beale and Note Issue have all won recently, Abbey Beale having gone up Jibs, as a result of her Napier victory. Three that may make most appeal are Secrecy, Abbey Beale (if not reserved) and Collodion. Raugitikei Cup. There is nothing wrong with the Standard of eight horses entered for the Raugitikei Cup in which anything might happen. One thing is certain, however, and that is that the betting will take a wide range. Might, Eminent, Midian, Aiguille and Chief Marionette are bound to be well backed but the others will not be neglected. When it is all summed up, however, the favourite may be Midian, Eminent or Chief Marionette.

ipular autumn fixture is being held rything points to a successful fixture racing enthusiasts. Good acceptances its and the course has never been in never doing her best and she finished as if she thoroughly enjoyed her work. Legatee, with S. .Anderson up, was sprinted five furlongs with Jim Coyle’s brilliant filly, Severe, who had L,. H. Jones in the saddle, Lagatce having his first gallop since liis let up. They were together after putting two furlongs behind in 25. As they turned into the straight, however, Severe drew away and looked if she would finish on herown. Anderson then shook Legatee up and he quickly closed the gap, the pair finished almost on terras. The time was 1.4$ and it was a very nice bit of work. Beau Gallante appears to be none the worse for his recent racing and with L. H. Parks in the saddle he sprinted five furlongs in 1.5 1-5, the last four taking him 52 2-5. He pulled up well. .Calydon has been bought by an Australian sportsman and he has been shipped to Melbourne. Rompalong was sprinted with a Colossus fitly and they were together after running half a mile on the course proper in .545, the last three in -10 1-5. It was quite an attractive effort. Round Up, alone, was not troubled to run the same distance in 5-1 2-5. Corroboree had Lord Moutoa as a companion over five. They lioppcd away together and averaged 13 for the first two furlongs. They continued to gallop smoothly and it took them 1.4 4-5 to run tho full distance. Corroboree appears to have recovered after his set back, Lord Moutoa is in at Raugitikei to-day and lie looks in good fettle for his engagement. Hunting Scene, one of the lightweights in the Trial Plate, had the Defoe colt as a companion when they jumped away for a four furlong flutter on tho course proper but it was not long before Hunting Scene had drawn away. He finished four or live lengths ahead in 04, and was going well at the post. Aiguille (G. Tattersall), Sir Romeo (L. It. Jones) and Bacchus Marsh: (S. Anderson) were sprinted live furlongs and they finished in that order-at two lengths intervals, the time being -1.0 1-5. . Bazaine, alone, scampered over live in 1,0 3-5 and Bull Throttle in 1.5 3-5 and both could have done better. •

ttreatford Hack Handicap. There arc seven acceptors for the Greatford Hack and the favourite may come from tho top half of the card. The betting may point to Timorous, Bonnie Vale and Darecourt. Bailey Memorial. Korokio and Midian claim a prior engagement in the Cup, which they may take on in preference to the Bailey Memorial, which is going to be a hard race to win.' Navalio, Wasteland, Bull Throttle and Land Tax have all won( recently but Sanguine King and' Royal. Routine will also have to be taken into account. In tho event of Midian being withdrawn three that may make appeal are Royal Routine, NaVako anil Land Tax.

WELLINGTON RACING CLUB WEIGHTS - FOR FIRST DAY.

AWAPUNI TRACK WORK. SEVERE AND LEGATEE SPRINTED The weather was fine but cold for track work at Awapuni yesterday morning and there was a light . breeze. The course proper, with the flags out in the middle of the course, was available for fast work and in most cases tho gallops were on the. grass in preference to the plough wdiich, however, was in good order. The. course- .proper was fast but much greenpr as a-result of recent rain.

Apart I'roru Ihe try outs of horses engaged at Kangitikei, the most interesting gallops of the morning were those of Palm, Severe and legatee, and Beau OaTtale, a]}, of whom gave excellent accounts of themsclvps. Palm, out on the course proper, ran seven furlongs in 1.34 2-5 and it was a very smooth performance. She was
