EVENING MEETING RESULTS

The series of evening athletic and cycling events was continued at the Sportsground last evening before the usual large crowd of spectators. The* strong wind blowing v.as against the cyclists, but some good times wore recorded and the -fields were the largest so far seen this season. V: ith the numerous meetings held in the district, of late, both runners and cyclists are getting plenty of competition and are all at the top of their form. Added interest in the meeting was the appearance of W. Walker, of Auckland, who competed in the 100 yards sprint off scratch. He gained third place in a very close finish. The race for the Manning badge was a good one. L. Astin (holder), after withstanding nine challenges, was defeated by li. Walker in a two-mile pursuit race, who won by SO yards. Results were as follow: —

Boys’ 2-lap cycle: Elston 1, Drake -, Collins 3. Time, 1.47. 440 yards llat: Moxon (ooyds) 1, Clarke (34) 2, McDonald (33) 3. Time, 4Ssec.

3-mile cycle: Thomas (410yds), 1; D. Lamberton, Ecilding, 2; J. Lamberton, Feilding, 3. Time, 7.22. Members of the Manawatu Cycling Club competed at the Bulls sports last Saturday, and the following riders were successful in gaining places in the various events: —N. Dixon, Ist in

half-mile; A. Rasmussen, 2nd in 1-miie and 2nd in 3-mile (Ist race); H. Rogers, 2nd in 3-miic (2nd race), 3rd in 2niile.

Members of the Kia Toa Amateur Athletic Club who competed at the Levin and Bulls meetings held last week were very successful. At Levin It. Findlay won the 440 yards and the 880 yards handicaps; A. Freeman won the 220 yards handicap, and R. 11. McDonald was second in the SSO yards handicap. The club team (K. Findlay, R. Moxon, B’. Clarke and I?. Freeman) won the SSL) yards relay race. At Bulls R. Moxon won tho 100 yards maiden race and R. H. McDonald and R. Findlay dead-heated for first place in tho 880 yards handicap. The club team (It. Findlay, R. H. McDonald, li. Freeman and It. Moxon) was again successful in tho relay race over a distance of 440 yards. Since tlio formation of the club eight years ago, it has never been beaten in, an interclub relay face. This is an outstanding performance.
