Arterial Underground Roads to Help London
COSTLY SCHEME SUGGESTED United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Wednesday, 9.25 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 21. The Daily Express says that a group of leading industrialists has worked out a scheme to provide Mid-London with arterial underground roads, costing £400,000,000. It is suggested that the money be raised by Government loans. The roads would emerge at points clear' of traffic congestion, but motorists would be allowed to park their vehicles underground near at hand and pick them up after business. The arterial roads would be limited to private motor-cars and fast goods traffic. It is believed that this would make the upper roads 100 per cent, safer by relieving congestion. The scheme should employ 250,000 for the first five years.
