Breaches of Gaming Laws
FOUR MEN FINED AT CHRISTCHURCH. Per Press Association. CHRIST CHURCH, Last Night. Four men, all employed in city hotels, were fined in the Magistrate’s Court to-day for breaches of the gaining laws. Frank Hughes, barman at Tattersall’s Hotel, was fined £25; Harry Aynsley Marks, barman at the Excelsior Hotel, was fined £35; Albert Edward Jones, barman at the Zetland Hotel, was fined £10; and James Robert Pirie, porter at Warner’s Hotel, was fined £7. It was stated concerning Jones and Pirie that they were in a small way, taking bets on behalf of other men.
Fine of £35 at Oamaru Per Press Association. OAMARU, Last Night. At the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon, before Mr. H. W. Bundle, S.M., Tom Leslie Richards was convicted and fined £35, with costs 10s, for keeping a common gaming-house. A second charge of bookmaking was withdrawn, the police asking for only one conviction.
