Mr S. G. Smith to be New Minister
MAY TAKE OVER EDUCATION PORTFOLIO. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The vacancy in Cabinet as a result of the recent resignation of Sir Apirana Ngata will be filled at an early date by the appointment of Mi-. S. G. Smith, M.P. for New Plymouth. In order that Hon. R. Masters may devote all his time to trade questions, it is possible that be will relinquish the portfolio of Education and that this will be taken over by Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith, who was a Minister in the Forbes administration prior to the formation of the Coalition in 1931, has had a long experience of educational affairs as a member of the Taranaki Education Board, of which he is chairman.
