Apprenticeship Agreements

VERT FEW CANCELLATIONS BEING GRANTED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Decision was reserved by Mr. Justice Reed in the Wellington Supreme Court to-de.y in a case in which Gilbert Archer, a minor, claimed £SOO damages from S. S. Williams and Co., Ltd., upholsterers. He alleged that defendants failed to teach him the upholstery trade as they had contracted. In the course of his evidence, Inspector Goodacre, of the Labour Department. said that during the last two or three years employers had found it difficult to find work for their apprentices. Several employers had applied under section 50 of the Finance Act for relief, but Magistrates, on the application of employers, had granted very few cancellations. About 400 applicants had been made and only in about 3 per cent, of the cases had the contracts been cancelled.
