Tokomaru
From Our Own Correspondent. On Friday evening a well attended and enjoyable euchre party and dance was held by the Women's Institute. The ladies’ euchre prizes were won by .Mrs. Dean and Mrs. J. McNab, and the men's by Mr. Lloyd and Mr. C. Free. A competition for a box of chocolates was won by Master R. Boote, and the Monte Carlo waltz by Mrs. S. Lloyd and Mr. J. Anderson. Mrs. J. Knyvett supplied the music .and Miss U. Corlett and Mrs. H. Parr capably carried out: the duties of M.’sC. Tho local beauty spot, .the Horse Shoe 'bend, is a wonderful ' sight at present. The natural bush and palms on the cliffface are at their .best, while large patches of beautiful clematis are also in bloom. The deep swimming pool near the local "gold mine" is being well patronised, and week-end parties from tho city are already putting in an appearance. As the summer advances this ideal picnic spot will bo a favourite with parties from the city and the surrounding district as there is an abundance of firing and good swimming for young and old. Parties are allowed to use this picnic spot by the courtesy of the owners, and a word of .warning is issued about care in lighting
fires as some irresponsible person has already put a fire in the splendid rata tree on the edge of the bush. Mrs. H. Jewell is the guest of Mrs. R. Coker, of Linton. Mrs. A. Jones, of Hastings, is spending a holiday with her sisteit Mrs. Guy. Mr. E. Wilton has retted home after an enjoyable holiday at i?ast!'ngs. Owing to rain tho criebtt match between Shannon and the local team had to be postponed.
