Calf Club Activities
GROUP JUDGING AT LONGBURN Judging of tho calves entered in tho competition of the Manawatu-Oroua division of tho Boys’ and Girls' Agricultural Clubs was entered upon on Tuesday when No. 1 group, comprising 1 Kairanga, Bainesso and Longburn Schools, was judged. The officials cngagod were Mr. J. A. Russell, judge of care and attention, class; Mr. J. M. Smith, judgo of dairy type; Mr. F. H. Lange, of the Wanganui Education Board, and Mr. C. M. Hyde, supervisor of No. 1 group. Tho organisation worked excellently throughout, and at each school the judges wero able to proceed immediately with their duties. At Kairanga School, 13 calves were paraded, all the animals being of splendid quality and showing every evidence of careful rearing. Baincsss School produced six entrants of good quality, albeit they were hardly up to tub standard set at School. It was at the Longburn School, however, that the judges had their hardest task, the 13 calves broght before them being of exceptional merit. Being as it is the centre of a district well-known for the productivity and quality of its dairy herds, a good display at this school had been expected, but the judges were unanimous in their opinion that their greatest expectations had been exceeded. Both judges declared the parade of calves at Longburn to have been probably unsurpassed in any show ring in tho Dominion, Mr/Bussell expressing his doubts as to whether a finer collection of calves could have been got together anywhere else in the Dominion. To the children responsible the judges expressed their hearty congratulations on their work with the calves.
