Britain and Japan

NO TRUTH IN STORY. ' (British. Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Nov. 12. The Primo Minister, Mr Ramsay MacDonald, whose attention had been drawn to certain Press statements published in the United States, relating to tho Loudon naval conversations, has authorised the following statement: “1 should like to have it thoroughly understood that the American representatives have been kept informed of ..what passes between the Japanese representatives and ourselves during theso conversations, just as the Japanese have been similarly informed of what has passed between tho Americans and ourselves. There is no truth in tho story that there is intenso secret activity between the British and Japanese on economic and political fronts. As regards Manckukuo and the Japanese and situations which have been fully discussed in the Press we have been asked neither secretly nor otherwise to consider any oiler of concessions. Bo far as the Government is concerned the negotiationsregarding the textile situation have been in abeyance for some months, Por the industrial and commercial deputation recently in Japan tho Pederation of British Industries is solely responsible and, as its members have stated, it has no other status.”

In the House of Commons to day the Lord Privy Seal, Mr Authony Eden v stated, in reply to a question, that opportunity had already been taken to emphasise to the Chinese Government through the Chinese Minister in London the entirely non-political and unofficial character of the British industrial Commission which recently visited Manchuria. He was confident that there could not be any misunderstanding on the point and that no further action was called for. Manchukuo Oil Monopoly LONDON, Nov. 12, Further British representations in connection with the Mauchukuo oil monopoly are being made to Tokio, whose replies are uncompromising.
