Fourth Contest to Perry
Hughes Beaten After First-class Exhibition ENGLISH TENNIS TEAM AT WELLINGTON Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The highlight of to-day’s exhibition tennis matches .at .Mirantar played by the visiting English team and New Zealanders —France, Angus and Miss I). Nicholls —was the singles betweeu Perry and Hughes, won by the former S—u, 7 —5. This was the fourth contest between these two players in New Zealand and the first that. Ferry has won. It was a first-class exhibition and was closely fought all the way. The Englishmen .combined in doubles against France and .Angas and won a spectacular match alter losing the third set and being■ pushed to 7—5 in the second. The Wight in an Cup pair, blisses Dearman and Lyle, played a doubles with Misses Round and Nicholls, which was abandoned when the latter wore leading 4—2 in the third set. A mixed doubles, France and Miss Dearman v. Angus and Miss Round, was also played and resulted in a win for the former pair, o—30 —3 in the third set. The day was perfect for tenuis, a slight southerly wind being no inconvenience, and there was a large crowd present.
