ANCIENT CORONATION CHAIR OF THE KINGS OF KANDY RESTORED TO CEYLON—During his visit to Ceylon, while on route to Australia, the Duke of Gloucester, on behalf of the King, restored to the Ceylon Government the famous Coronation Chair (shown on left), in which the Kings of Kandy were crowned before the colony was transferred to Britain early in the nineteenth century. The throne has been located at Windsor Castle for the past hundred years. The photograph on the right shows the great Perahera (festival torchlight procession), in which Kandyan dancers and 86 elephants took Part at the close of the ceremonies.
