Felding's Water Service For Fire Fighting

CLAIM TOR LOWER TIRE RISK RATE. The view that tho inspection of Feilding’s water resourees for firefighting purposes was undertaken with uudue haste was expressed by tho Mayor (Mr C. E. Taylor) at. last evening’s meeting of the Borough Council, when dealing with a letter from the Eire Insurance Underwriters’ Association, in which regret was expressed that the association could not ontertain Feilding’s proposal for a more favourable classification in the business area. Mr Taylor recalled that the attltudo of the association was based upon an inspection of the water supply services hurriedly carried out on a Monday morning, and liis view was that the association should have mado a closer inspection and not based their findings upon assumptions arising from conditions existing on a particular Monday morning. Tho Borough Engineer (Mr T. K. Hay), invited to comment on the letter, said that some of the findings of tho association’s inspectors were in conflict with the formulas applied for measuring water flow. Mr Hay went on to give figures relating to the available flow, and considered that a flow' of 1)00 gallons per minute at a pressure as Jow as OOlbs. per square inch could not be characterised as being short of the measurements for a town the size of Feilding.

The Mayor said that nothing further could be done in the meantime, but the council would, should the occasion aviso, require to sec that a more comprehensive inspection was made.
