“ The Fake ”

The Palmerston North Operatic and Dramatic Society opens a three nights’ season at the Opera House on Thursday next, the loth instant, with Frederick Lonsdale’s striking threc-act drama, "Tho Fake.” The cast includes several amateurs well and favourably known to the Palmerston 'North public: Messrs M. H. Oram (Geoffrey Sands), C. N. Rabono (Edward Stanton, M.P.), N. Ellison (Hon. Gerrard Pillick), E. G. Seeker (Clifford Hope), T. M. N. Rodgers (Sir Thos. Moorgate, M.D.), E. G. Spraggon (Hesketh Pointer), and 11. Driver. The feminine members of the vast are Miss Gwen Gibbs (Mrs Hesketh Pointer), Miss P.etty Mcßao (Mavis Stanton), Mrs D. .T. Davies (Mrs Stanton), Miss B. Ross, and Miss B. Rodgers. The play concerns the marriage of Mavis Stanton with Hon. G. Pillick and the subsequent unhappiness caused by his drug : habits. Tho efforts of Clifford Hope I and Geoffrey Sands to release Mavis from her bondage are cleverly developed and the method of her release is well concealed up to tho end of Act 11. There are some stiffing dramatic scenes ’ during which the audience is specially requested to maintain silence. The presentation, which has been in production I for some time under Mr Fred Cousins, is one of tho finest dramas ever played in New Zealand.
