Tho dangers of a dictatorship will be discussed at the Conservative Party’s conference, which opens on October 4. The central council claims that the strife and bloodshed of foreign dictatorship throw into vivid prominence the peaceful restoration of British’s fortunes, and is the greatest tribute to the British system of constitutional government. The conference will consider a motion suggesting tho formatioiPof a league to preserve tho Constitution from a dictatorship.
Viscount Wolmer will move a resolution asking the Government immediately to reform the House of Lords in order to rescue the Constitution from its present dangerous position. The conference of the Labour Party, which meets at Southport on October 1, will consider the executive’s report explaining the decision to reject the proposals of the Communist Party and the Independent Labour Party for a united front against Fascism.
No Compacts for British liberals PREPARING FOR ELECTIONS LONDON, Sept. 19. The executive of the Liberal Federation has decidod to contest as many scats as possible at the election. It is understood that the party regards 400 seats as a minimum to contest. There will be no compacts with other parties. t The executive also passed a resolution demanding that an armaments inquiry be held in Britain similar to that sitting in tho United States of America.
