A young Sind Hindu author’s attack on Mohammed in his recent book,
"Islamic History,” had a tragic sequel in the Court of the Judicial Commissioner at Karachi yesterday. The author, Maharaj Nathuram, was recently sentenced to 18 months’ hard labour by a Sessions Judge at Hyderabad for blasphemous allusions to the Prophet in his book. Nathuram yesterday was waiting in Court for the hearing of an appeal against the sentence, when three pathans, who arc Mohammedans, sitting nearby, rushed Nathuram, two holding him and the other repeatedly stabbing him. The victim was sent to hospital, where he died.
Tho Court adjourned in confusion, and two of the Pathans were arrested. The crime created a sensation in the city, Hindu shops being closed as a mark of respect for deceased, whose body was carried to the cremation ground escorted by a vast crowd.
