Japanese Sampan Taken To Thursday Island
ACTION BY COMMONWEALTH OFFICIALS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, Sept. 21. A message from Thursday Island states that a Japanese sampan landed four men last night at Booby island, a lonely lighthouse station, 20 miles west of Thursday Island, to inquire about lights. The vessel was intercepted by Comonwealth officials and taken to Thursday Island. The sampan is driven by a semi-Diesel engine and lias a crow of twenty. Vessel Released Received Friday, 7.10 p.m. CANBERRA, Bcpt. 21. The Customs authorities announce that the Japanese sampan held at Thursday Island for inquiry has been released. The vessel’s papers showed that it was the one which recently called at the island and removed gold ore.
