From the Hub

OUR MOTTO. I’m just a Cog in Life’s vast wheel, That daily makes the same old trip, Yet what a joy it is to feel That but for me the wheel might slip. It's something, after all, to jog Along, and be a good old Cog! DEAR COGS, ’ Letters and Skilltcsts have simply poured in again this week! Have you ever thought how exciting it must be opening a big pile of letters? — fat letters, thin letters, with envelopes of all shapes and sizes! The writing of the Cogs who*write most regularly I easily recognise, and I am always pleased when I sec their letters faithfully appearing; then it’s ever so interesting to come to a letter addressed# in strange hand-writing, either of some new Cog or one who hasn’t written for a long while. But, dear me, I promised Mr. Triiiterman faithfully a little • while ago that I would make my letter as short as possible, because he was having such a task trying to squeeze everything in. Love to you all from Your friend, THE HUB.

Dear Hub,—The weather down here is very beautiful, so I thought I would go tramping through our bush. As I got in tho dense part of it, I heard one of New Zealand’s tuis in a big native bush over my head. I got close to it, and noticed its throat ornamented with tfUfts of white, curly feathers; all at once it sent forth a wild burst of joyful notes, which sounded very meldious and pleasing. Later on I went through a lot of undershrub and lawyers, which toro my dress and scratched my arms, while my hat hooked itself in one of the upper branches. I was in a very bad way don’t you think, Hub? I thought it was time to return, as the cold wind made me shiver. Tho dark earth of the banks peeping from between overhanging fern looked like to deep, mysterious caves. Deep down in tho gorge roared the stream, and 1 paused to watch, to tho left seeing a bare, brown peek piercing the azure. 1 must closo now as it is getting late, so love to all tho Cogs from Delphinium. You certainly must have been in a bad way, my dear, but I am sure you enjoyed your ramble all the same. Ivimbolton. Dear Hub,—We’ve had glorious weather here lately and the weeping willows arc covering themselves with tinv green leaves. Wo have a tamo magpie who is very funny, but does not like anyone to pick him up. When our cat is near ho will go very softly up to her and pull her tail. For this he usually receives a cuff, and off pussy goes. It is very funny watching- them, but sometimes pussy gets very cross. W’ith love to you and all the Cogs, Black Beauty. Animals are an interesting study; don’t you think they arc intelligent?
