movement there was a good attendance. Mrs. Kilpatrick was elected to the chair. Mrs. Drew was appointed secretary and treasurer, and the committee comprises Masdames Francis, Fordyce, Bond, Tostevin, Jessop, Coulter, Pearce and Grace. On the following Saturday afternoon Mrs. Willis (Commissioner), Marton, came down and gavo a discourse on tho movement. Miss Davis, captain of Rongotea Girl Guides, put tho patrol through their tenderfoot and they wore then enrolled by Miss Willis. Miss McFarlane was appointed captain and Miss Kilpatrick lieutenant. A most enjoyable afternoon concluded with the serving of afternoon tea by tho committee. Cricket. The annual meeting of the Sandon District Cricket Club was held on Friday night. There was a moderate attendance presided over by Mr. Anderson. In the annual report the president said that the past season’s play had been enjoyable and a fair amount of success had been met with. Thanks were due to the Fending ladies who provided afternoon tea. Appreciation was expressed by the club of tire fine sporting spirit in which the games had been played. P.cgret was expressed at losing Mr. I. Edwards, but he was to bo congratulated on his appointment as county clerk at Murchison. The finances were not in a good condition, a small debit balance being shown, but the club had a fair supply of material. The election of officers was hold over and a committee was set up to canvass for players with the view of playing a senior team. Arrangements were maue to clear the debit balance, and the meeting adjourned for a week. A minstrel concert party named the "Coon Singers,” which has been organised by the Sanson and Awahuri branches of the New Zealand Labour Party, played on Wednesday night tinder tho direction of Mr. J. Currie. The hall was packed and the audience was most appreciative. Mr. Bowater, on behalf of the "Coon Singers," thanked the audience for their support and the way in which they received the various items. Mr. Bowater said the “Coon Singers” would, whenever possible; be pleased to assist with any school function, and they hoped to travel with their concert in the near future.
