MELBOURNE WOOL BALES OPEN,

MELBOURNE, Sept. 19

The wool-selling season for Victoria began to-day with 5500 bales offered. Prices were disheartening, the market being 25 per cent, lower, than the first Mcloourne sales of last year, but values suffered no decline on the rates realised in .Sydney. FROZEN MEAT. MORE BEEF, LESS MUTTON. An increase of about 30 per cent, over last year is revealed in the figures for the amount of beef exported from the Dominion during the period or eleven months from October 1,193 a, to the end of last month. Of the beef exported this season 18,528 quarters were chilled, and all the chilled beef was shipped to London. The amount of beef exported to Canada was 114ounrters, a slight, increase over last year, while 004 quarters were sent to Kobe, Japan. The amount of mutton exported dropped from 1,953,239 carcasses to 1,022,990, and lamb from 5,097,201 to 5,374,955, but pork showed a decided increase —from 255,585 to 424,470. According to the New Zealand .Tea o Producers’ Board shipments during the period, with the figures for last year, were:—
