Stanway

From Our Own Correspondent. A “wasliing-up” meting of tho TohoStanway Football Club was held on Monday night, Mr. S. G. Still presiding over a fair attendance of members. The secretary reviewed the past season and reported that, considering tho amount spent in travelling expenses, the club was in quite a good position financially. The team, which played in the senior grade for the first time, finished fourth in a competition between, eight teams and this is a matter for congratulation when it is taken into consideration that tho bulk of tho team arc young players, and at least four of them have never played football before. To ask players to turn out in senior football in their first playing season is a largo request, but they stuck to their guns manfully and all proved their worth. Mr. J. Bush eulogised the work of the secretary, Mr. A. L. Dormer, and complimented him on the manner in which he fulfilled his duties. Ho moved that a hearty vote, of thanks bo accorded Mr. Dormer, and this being seconded, was carried by acclamation.. Mention was mado of the Stanway ground, which was classed as one of tho best in the ltangitikei, and it was decided to send a letter to Mr. J. Watherston thanking him for his great kindness in granting the club tho use of his ground, entirely free of charge. Ho went to much trouble in preparing the ground and it is duo to supporters such as Mr. Watherston that the club ia in tho position wljich it now holds. Thanks were also expressed to Mr. A. K. Callingham for tho efficient manner in which lie carried out his duties as gatekeeper. After some discussion it was decided not to hold an end of season dance, owing to the lateness of the time. School Affairs. Mr. Christian (chairman) presided over Messrs I)’. Cowdrey, J. Watherston and J. MacMillan at a meeting of the committee on Friday. Owing to .die fact that Mrs. Still had the misfortune to be taken to the hospital that day. it was decided to postpone tiio fancy dress ball indefinitely, until sho is well enough to take an active part iu that function. Tho teacher was deputed to procure tho necessary trees for tiio shelter belt for tho experimental plots, and to order the wire-net-ting with which to fence in tho plot.;. It was reported that the I-lalconibc .School Committee had received notification that in a family where whooping cough prevailed, the children not infected could attend school, but as tho local hoard member had informed tho chairman or this committee that the whole family must remain in isolation, tho secretary was instructed to write to the Education Board for a ruling. Personal.

The friends of Mrs. S. G. Still will be pleased to learn that she is making good progress towards recovery from the operation sho underwent recently in the Feilding hospital. Residents of Stanway will be pleased to hear that little Betty Christian is progressing favourably in a private hospital in Palmerston. North, and all wish her a speedy return to good health.
