Meat Export Situation

CONFERENCE IN LONDON Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night The announcement that the next development in the meat export situation as it affected New Zealand would he a conference in London next month was made by the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) in an interview tonight. Mr Forbes said it was expected that all the British Ministers immediately concerned with the negotiations would be back in London by then and New Zealand would be represented at the conference by its High Commissioner (Sir James Parr). The necessity for an early definition of the arrangements was stressed by Mr. Forbes in view of the fact that the exporting season was at hand. Mr Forbes said there was no question of a quota being applied at present. Quota on .Pork Imposed by Britain ARGENTINE AND AMERICA LONDON, Sept. 5. The Sun-Herald representative Joarns that the Government has restricted the imports of pork and pork products from the United States and the Argentine to a quantity 40 per cent, below the imports of the first six months of 1934. The quota applies retrospectively from July .1 to December 31. It docs not include bacon. All pork values have consequently risen 15 to 20 per cent. It is understood that the Government, in conjunction with the regulation of other meats, is negotiating with Australia and New Zealand with the object of reducing their exports.
