Australian Hockey Team Has Runaway Win
GERALDINE BEATEN EIGHT-NIL Per Press Association. TIMARU, Last Night. Though several members are st : ll suffering from influenza, the A lian hockey team gave a splcndplay when it defeated the Gcr. Sub-Association to-day by eight gto nil. The combination and stickwork of the visitors was a delight to watch, the game being particularly fast in the first half, though the pace slackened in the second session. J. Aden, the visiting centre-forward played a groat game, in -spite of tho fact that he was obliged to leave the field for a short period owing to the effects of influenza. Tester, Leggett and Penman also showed out, while Lee was an invaluablo centre-half. W. Rule, the Geraldine custodian, played an outstanding game, and but for his splendid display, the score rvould have been much higher. There was a large attendance. Goals were scored for the winners by Allen (4), Tester (2) and Stening (2.) Dominion "Women’s HockeyTournament SECTION WINNERS FOUND Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Tho final round of section matches in the women’s hockey tournament was played to-day. The easterly drizzle continued and the grounds were heavy. In A section, Marlborough won with a score of 10 points, Central Otago and Otago tying for second place with 6 points each. In B section, Canterbury A and Euahine tied for first place arid they will, play off to-morrow morning. In C section, Eastern Southland A won with 10 points. After tho Canterbury A v. Ruahine match to-morrow morning, two section winners will play in the afternoon and the team which has drawn a bye—Marlborough—will play a fourth team.The winner of the Canterbury A-Rua-hine match will play Eastern Southland A in the semi-final, and on Saturday the wdnnor of this match will play Marlborough in. the final. The results to-day were: A section.—Otago 3 beat Wellington 1, Wairarapa 6 beat Canterbury B 2, Marlborough 1 (a penalty goal) beat Central Otago 0. B section.—Ruahine 3 beat Canter-* bury A 1, Eastern Southland B 2 drew with Akitio 2. C section.—-Ashburton 2 beat North Otago 0, Eastern Southland A 3 beat Southland 0, Bush 4 beat South terbury 2.
