From Our Own Correspondent. Tlio fortnightly euchre party and dance held last week at the Kakariki Maori meeting house was again well attended and proved quite a success, visitors being present from all quarters of the surrounding district. The music was supplied by an orchestra, comprised of Mrs. Stevens (piano), Mr. L. Hakaraia (clarionet) and Mr. G. Te Tomo (violin). The euchre prizes were won by Mrs. E. Hill 1, Mrs. Brett 2; Mr. Kaihuia Saerancke 1 and Mr. Jack Davy 2. Tlio winners of the prize for the lucky Gay Gordons were Mrs. Aperehana (Parewanui) and Mr. E. Hill, the Monte Carlo waltz going to Miss Shedroslti and Mr. P. Williams. Songs were contributed during the evening- by Misses Rora and Hariata Hynes and Mr. W. Aperehana, of Parewanui. Extras for the dancing were played by Miss H. Hynes and Miss M. Paranihi. Mr. L. Hakaraia was in charge of the tloor. The second meeting of the I-lalcombe-Kakariki Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on August 20, Mrs. Aynsley presiding over a large number of members. Sympathy and best wishes for a speedy recovery from her illness was accorded to Mrs. Scales. Mrs. H. Redmayne, of “Bushlands,” gave an interesting- demonstration oil tapestry and also exhibited specimens of lier work which included handsome firescreens, stools and pictures. The junior branch of tho division has decided to hold a "Gipsy” dance in the near future. At the conclusion of the demonstration, afternoon tea was served. The hostesses for the next meeting will bo Mesdames Abbiss and Blunden. Miss C. Rowlands, who was recently acting as relieving teacher at tho Mangaweka school, lias been appointed permanent assistant teacher at the Tokorangi school, and commenced her new duties at the beginning of the month. Mr. Den Anderson, who has received an appointment to a position with a business firm in Dannevirke, left Haiconibe oil Wednesday last for Dannevirke.
