From Our Own Correspondent. For the last two days the weather in Paliiatua has been warm and sunny, a welcome change alter the long period of grey, cold days. Influenza lias been very prevalent and in many homes the whole family has been confined to bed with the malady. Miss Francis Clulow, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. 8. Clulow, Kaitawa, is an inmate of the Tararua hospital on account of severe illness following a prolonged attack of influenza. Miss Betty Godwin, of the staff of the public hospital, is progressing satisfactorily after influenza and an operation for appendicitis. Mrs. R. A. Burke, Mangatainoka, is an inmate of a private hospital. Two Paliiatua residents, Mrs. "Walter Britland and Mrs. W. J. Mills, who have botli undergone operations in hospital at Wellington, recently, arc both making steady progress towards recovery. With a view of giving the girls of the Ist Paliiatua Company of Girl Guides a party, Mrs. A. Nelson, of Wakeman street, issued invitations to all oliicers and members of the company. About 40 were present and the evening was spent in games and competitions, charades, etc., several members of the local association committee wiio were present entering whole-heartedly into everything with Llie girls. The winners of competions were May Britland, Jean Watts, Joy Kershaw and Pamela Smythe, of the local company, and a visiting Guide, Mary Mackersey (Hastings), the prizes being donated by Mrs. Jt. Paterson, Mrs. A. Nelson and Mrs. F. M. Gregorio. The members of Uio executive committee of the local association had assisted to provido the supper. Miss H. Horrax, actingcaptain, conveyed tho thanks of the Guides to Mrs. Nelson, the president of the local association, Mrs. H. Paterson, doing the same on behalf of the committee. During the week-end the team of members of the Paliiatua and Eketahuna staffs of the Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-op. Association played the return game of Rugby football with the Masterton branch, Masterton winning by 11 to li. Those who scored for the northern branches were J. Finn and ltussell Mills.
