Ballance Valley Factory

ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual general meeting of the Ballance Valley Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., Mr J. H. Windle, chairman of directors, presided over a moderate attendance of shareholders. The annual report read:—“Another difficult season has been experienced by the dairy industry, prices remaining at very low levels, which would be disastrous were it not for the heavy exchange premium. The output of the factory shows an appreciable increase on the previous season, reaching 177 tons; a considerable quantity is not yet shipped. “Your directors recommend payment at annual mooting of £d. per lb butterfat on the past season’s supply, and further payment to bo made as cheese realised.

Messrs. L. H. Holdaway and F. W. Long retire from the Board by rotation but are eligiblo for re-election; you are also asked to elect a further director in pi'aco of Mr. J. H. Windle, who has announced his retirement.” Statistics for season ended 30th June, 1934: Milk for cheesemaking, 3,477,6461b5. 161,1731bs butterfat; average test 4.63; cheeso manufactured, 397.9841bs (177 tons 15041bs); lbs. milk to lib. cheese manufactured B.73Jbs; lbs. cheese to lib. butterfat 2.469.

In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman stated that they had had a substantial increaso in their output last season, due mainly to good climatic conditions. Prices, however, had been on a very low level, but the exchange premium had eased the position to a considerable extent. There still remained unsold a considerable quantity of the cheese manufactured, and some not yet shipped, so that ho anticipated, on the prices now ruling, that their valuation which was conservative, would bo exceeded. The motion was seconded by Mr. L. H. Holdaway, and carried unanimously. Tlio two directors retiring by rotation, Messrs. L. H. Holdaway and F. W. Long, were re-el'ected, and Messrs. J. Callanan and A. G Hansen were elected in place of Messrs. J. H. Windle (who had resigned) and Mr. P. McCarthy, who was granted permission to retire on account of ill-health. On the motion of Mr L. H. Holdaway, an appreciation was recorded of the long and devoted services of Mr. J. H. Windlo, who had been a director since the foundation or the company, and chairman for a number of years. Mr. L. D. Lovelock was re-elected auditor. The usual honorarium was voted to the directors. Votes of thanks to the chairman, directors and staff were carried. Mr. L. H.
