COMMENT FROM HOKOWIIITTJ Playing in a McLannan Cup match during the week-end, F. Eodden and his partner, A. Sharp, bumped into a solid proposition when they mot N. H. Eawson and H, Palmer. Palmer aud Rawson set it alight right from tho outset and except at the fourth and tenth they recorded figures which wero equal to if not better than par golf. Tlicir best ball going out was a 33 and a 2 by Eawson at Lagoon Hill made tho game safo. They -were both down in easy 4’s at the first. Eawson then ran down the putt for a birdie 3 at the second (322 yards.) They recorded 4 apiece at the third and fourth but at Strang’s (563 yards) Palmer came in with a net 3, Eawson was down in a steady 5 at Cliff View and Palmer followed with a birdie 4 at Riversido (484 yards) and 3’s at the eighth and another 3 by Palmer at tho ninth gave them 33 out. Good Round by Ekstedt An interesting 4-ball at Hokowhitu during tho week-end was that in which D. 0. Whyte, tho scratch man from Heretaunga, was partnered with K. S. Glendinning against A. E. Ekstedt and W. McKinlay, a C-handicap man from London. Whyte was driving particularly well and his seconds to t)io green left little to bo desired. His putting, however, cost him a stroke or two, Whyto having difficulty in gauging tho strength of the greens, but he did well to record a round equal to a 7S. Glendinning was on the job too, and ho was round in 77. Their best ball must have been pretty good, but it was not good enough to hold Ekstedt and McKinlay. Ekstedt was round in, 74, a splendid effort on the slow course, and McKinlay, who plays a very solid game, pulled his weight with a round equal to a net 76. Ekstcd’s card, which included seven 3’s, five of them in a row, was as under: — Out In RESULTS FROM TE MATAI CLUB COMPETITIONS Following are results of recent games played in the first round of tho Goldfinch and Cousins’ Cup competition:— Skoglund beat Parkes by default.
