MANAWATU BEAT PALMERSTON FIRST AIATCH OF SERIES The first of tho Wednesday Cup matches between Alanawatu and Palmerston, played yesterday at liokovvhitu, was won by Alanawatu by S 4 points to 19. Tho match, the first in this district to bo decided on match and medal rounds played in conjunction, proved an interesting experiment and one that found favour with those who took part. The games wero played on handicap with fivo points awarded to each player who won his match and three to each player who beat his opponent on the medal round. When tho results were posted it was found that in some cases a player who beat his man match play had lost to him on the net medal round.

The results, Alanawatu players mentioned first, were as under: — A. E. Ekstedt scored live points and F. Raven three in their game. Ekstedt won on match play but lost the medal round, their net scores being 80 and 79.

A. E. Guy beat J. Ramsay in both games, scoring eight points, their net rounds being 74 and 78. T. Louisson and It. Looney halved on match play but Looney won with a net 74 to 76, getting 5t points to Louisson's 2s.

D. AlcEenzic beat R. French in both games, annexing eight points for his team. Their medal rounds were 72 —94.

J. Louisson, who met A. V. Pizzey, scored in both games, their medal rounds being 75 and 80 respectively.

J. P. Ataulo lost to H. Bennett in match play but won the medal (SO —SI) getting three points to Bennett’s five. A. C. Anderson won both games against T. Simpson, scoring eight points. Their medal rounds were 83 —- SG. C. Swindell halved match play against D. H. Cook but won tho medal round 81—S3, taking 5J points to 27. A. Strange won his match against J. Coupo but lost the medal round, their scores being 80 —75. Strange annexed fivo points and Coupo three. A. Osborne won noth games against R. Vannini, scoring eight points, their net modal rounds being 74 —-82.

G. Fairey scored eight points against E. Anstis, their net rounds br/ng 90 —

F. A. Cousins was successful in both games against T. Simpson, taking medal rounds being 75 —92. The aggregate totals in the medal handicap were: Manawatu 040, Palmerston North 1002, Manawatu getting an additional seven points for this. Total points: Manawatu 81, Palmerston North 10.

The trophies for tho best net round of each team were won by D. McKenzie (Manawatu) and R. Looney (Palmerston North). Tho next match will be played at Tc ilatai a .fortnight honce.
