Hissing Bulls Deer Stalkers

SEARCH PARTY ORGANISED A'Press Association message sent out from Invercargill on Saturday reported that some anxiety is being felt for the safety of Messrs L. A. Alurrell and K. W. Dalrymple who are stalking wapiti in the southernmost portion of the South Island, Mr. Alurrell, who is tho proprieor of the hostel at Lake Alanipouri, accompanied A:lr. Dalrymple, a well-known figure in Kangitikei fanning and local body circles, on a similar expedition last year, the pair being very experienced outdoor men. They were due back at Alanipouri on April 29, and at the time of writing no word had been received. This in itself is not necessarily alarming, for the country which they are traversing is particularly wild and rugged, and is very liable to flooding—a matter which would hold them up for a considerable period. They travelled to tho Sounds bv launch, and here again the recent rough weather may be keeping them anchored in a safe haven. Both men are of very strong build, and had an extensive food supply so that, barring untoward accidents, there seems little reason to fear a tragedy, although, naturally enough, relatives of both men are anxious for news

Interviewed by a Times’ representative yesterday, Mrs. T. R. Willis, of Bulls, a sister of Air. Dalrymple, said her brother, Mr. R. 0. Dalrymple, had gono to Alanipouri to search for the missing men. He had chartered a Government tug to take a search party to the Sounds to work inland, and an aeroplane had been commissioned to m;’.(ve an aerial reconnaissance of tho countryside. At present the weather was quite against the searchers, but as soon as it cleared tho party would begin. Conc'ern over the prolonged absence of Mr. Dalrymple, who is chairman of the Rangitikei County Council and a member of the Wellington Mortgagors’ Relief Commission, was expressed by Cr. L. T. McLean (chairman) at yesterday’s meeting of the Kiwitea County Council. The council agreed to forward a letter to Miss Dalrymple, of Bulls, expressing the hope that Air. Dalrymple would early report all well.
