HEALTHY FINANCIAL POSITION

In Pohangina County ESTIMATES FOR YEAR APPROVED Pohangina County is maintaining its reputation for having credits in all its riding accounts. When the estimates lor tho coming vear were presented to the council for approval, this helpful situation was again revealed and the council was able to leave the rates much tho same as last year. Tho chairman (Mr. S. Strahan) commouted on the policy of constructing bridges out of revenue. He wondered if it was a good one, seeing that the money of the ratepayers was worth S per cent, by way of interest, whereas a loan could probably be secured for 41 per cent. He would like to seo a report tabled showing the actual position. Councillor J. Mackenzie again dropped a hint that tho time was coming when riding accounts should be abolished aud all work done from a consolidated accouat. The following estimates wero approved, and a satisfactory feature is that’at the end of the year the ridings should still be in. credit although inroads will probably be made into the plant account: — Awahou Biding.
