Resumption of the Leicester match was delayed by rain and there was only an hour’s play before lunch. The game was continued after lunch in a continuous drizzle. Dawson and Berry scored freely. The howlers, becoming more and more handicapped by a wet ball, failed to control their length and 1 spin, Dawson played a chanceless innings, invariably choosing tlio right ball to hit. When ho was dismissed the score was three wickets for 160 runs. Four wickets then fell in quick succession, three of them being O’Roilly’s victims and with seven down for 175 there seemed a good prospect of Australia forcing a victory. Rain ceased after tea with the score seven wickets for 210 runs. Only a handful of people saw Leicester avoid an innnings defeat. Bradman appeared to make a mistake in taking a new ball at 200 and giving it to Ebeling and McCabe, as O’Reilly looked the only bowler likely to dismiss Leicester and the new ball did not suit him. Astill’s fighting innings made a draw certain, Details: —
