Professional Boxing at Invercargill

WINS FOR STRICKLAND AND NICOL. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Last Night. Two professional boxing contests of ten three-minute rounds were staged in the Civic Theatre by the Southland Boxing Association this evening, there being a very largo attendance. In the heavyweight contest, Maurice Strickland (12.10), of Wellington, defeated Val Luttrell (12.6), of Hastings, on a technical knock-out in the tenth round after the latter had been down for the count of nine. A light-heavyweight, bout between Ray Nicol (12.2), of Ohai, and Harry Lister (11.10), of Greymouth, was won by Nicol on points, the winner leading practically all the way. It was the third meeting of the pair, Nicol having won each time.
