Monthly Social of Business Girls’ Club

There was a large attendance at the monthly social of the Business Girls’ Club, held this week in the Y.W.C.A. Clubroom. The evening was .more of less devoted to drama, two play-read-ings being presented under the direction of Miss Ailsa Varcoo and Miss M. Galloway. In Miss Varcoes play, "The Followers," the-parts were taken as follow: —Miss V. McKay (I.ucy}, Miss C. Grace (Helen), Miss M. Piric (The Maid), Miss M. Fitch (Colone: Rodfern). "The Stepmother ’’ was Miss Galloway’s choice, with the following east: Miss M. Watt (Mrs. Front), Miss R. Carmont (Mrs. Trout’s Secretary),. Miss E. Elley (Adrian), Miss M. Galloway (Dr. Gardiner). Tho players were all dress'. 1 tor their parts, those in "The Followers’' being in frocks of the Victorian period. Several novelty games were indulged in, including an egg-and-spoon reiay race, which created much amusement. The new club song, composed by Miss Ruth Androws, was . . practised, and went off very well. During the evening opportunity was taken by the president, Mrs. M. 11. Oram, to make a presoouU.’on to Miss Rona Purton ,in view of her approaching marriage. In asking Miss Purton-s acceptance of a beautiful at term, on tea-tray as a token of esteem from kci tfellow-mcmbers, Mrs. Oram referred in glowing terms to Miss Purton’s attainments as a musician, gifts she willingly shared at club functions, and said she 'would be sadly missed. Tho members wished her all happiness in the future. Miss Purton was accorded musical honours and made suitable reply. Each member brought a grocery parcel for Willard Children’s Home, and as a result n fine collection lias been sent up to tho home, j The members were reminded of the | annual dance to bo held in June, and after a dainty supper the singing of ■‘ ‘ Auld Lang Syne’ ’ brought a happy J evening to a close.
