Rongomai
From Our Own Correspondent. A very pleasant evening was spent in honour of Mr. T. Baines at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. Schnell on Friday evening when the Elcctahuna and Rongomai members of the Oddfellows’ Lodge gathered together. The evening was spent in the playing of a euchre contest between the two districts, Eketahuna gaining the victory by 21 to 17. Mr. Baines is highly thought of among the Lodge members, having passed through all the offices of the Lodge. He was presented with a silver cruet and received many congratulations and good wishes for his forthcoming marriuge. A bridge party organised by the Social Committee was held in the school last Wednesday and although only a small number were present, a pleasant evening was passed. The winners of the jiolnts prizes were Mrs. A. Turner and Mr. OEvans. This Is the first of a series of such evenings which will be hold fortnightly throughout the winter months. ' One of the fastest football games witnessed in this district was played on Saturday when Rongomai met Old Boys in the first match of the junior competition. Much interest centred on this game as both teams had a win each in the practice matches. Despite the wet weather and the muddy condition of the ground, some very fine football was displayed. At halt time the excitement was tense as the scores were even, each side having an unconverted try to its credit. In the second half Old Boys changed the score again with some very smart back passing. Rongomai was not long In again making the score oven again but the local lads were doomed to surfer defeat. Old Boys again broke away and left the score in their favour 11—6.
