Feilding Borough Rates

INCREASES FORESHADOWED. Included in the business to be dealt with, by the Feilding Borough Council at its meeting to-night will be the estimates for the cu/rent year and, as indicated by the .Mayor (Mr. C. F. Taylor) some two months ago, these will provide for an increase in the rates. At the February meeting of the council the Mayor, in the course of a statement concerning adjustments in valuations for purely rating purposes, mentioned that the council would be obliged to increase the general rate to produce an additional £IOOO of revenue. This evening's meeting of the .council will have before it the estimates, which, it is understood, will provide for the additional revenue required as foreshadowed by the Mayor. In addition, there is a suggestion that ratepayers will bo asked to carry a sanitary rate (covering the cost of rubbish. removal) —an innovation as far as Feilding is concerned. While it was anticipated that the council p mid bo faced with the necessity of iindiug additional revenue by way of general rates, ratepayers will not welcome th" suggested employment by the council < f its power under the Municipal Corporations Act to levy an additional rato covering a limited service which, in the past, has not proved burdensomeMo the general revenue of the council.
