Canary and Foreign Bird Club

riKST ANNUAL MEETING. The first- annual meeting of the Manawatu Canary and Foreign Bird Club was held on Tuesday last, when Mr. A. W. Just presided over a good attendance of members. Annual Report. Tho report submitted by the secretary (Mr. Watson) was as under:— “The club was formed by a number of enthusiasts in April of last year and it has made steady progress, tho membership having been increased from 14 to 30. The name of the club was latex altered to Manawatu Canary and Foreign Bird Club on account of the fact that nearly all tho members were also interested in canaries and that by catering for canary fanciers the scope of tho club would bo widened. Nine general meetings of members were held during* the year with satisfactory attendances and a well maintained interest on the part of members. The club participated in tho third show held under the auspices of the Manawatu Poultry and Pigeon Society at the A. and P. Show in June of last year and again' in the Young Bird Show in March, 1931. On each occasion the foreign birds section was an attractive feature of the show and commanded a great deal of the attention of the show patrons. During tho year a matter which has been tho subject of considerable discussion at meetings has been tho question of becoming definitely linked up either with the North Island Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association or the New Zealand Federation of Cage Bird Clubs,dt being felt that without' a parent body the club was handicapped through the lack' of assistance and co-operation which could be expected from a governing organisation. Finally, in February last it was decided to become affiliated to the New Zealand Federation of Cage Birds as this federation was obviously prepared to give a great deal moro practical help to the club than was the North Island Association. A further advantage was that the federation was especially interested in foreign birds for which the North Island Association does not cater at all. Juno S and 9 have been allotted to this club by tho federation as the dates for its iirst annual show and it is hoped to stage a show which will be a credit to tho club.” , The report was adopted. Balance-sheet. Tho balance-sheet disclosed a satisfactory credit as a result of the year’s work. Votes of Thanks. Special thanks were accorded Messrs. J. A. 8011, H. E. Edmunds, A. W. Just, V. Crichton and F. Ronbcrg and R. Walker and G-. B. Hutchinson, of Auckland. Election of Officers. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —Patron, Mr. A. E.
