Dunlop Wins Chess Championship Play-off

x ALk>E MU VAi xj x wl JjXjo. , For Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The play-oil for the Dominion chess championship between A. W, Gyles (Wellington; and J. B. Dunlop (Dunedin) who tied for lirst place at the congress held in Dunedin at Christinas, resulted in a win for Dunlop. Gyles had the move and a queen’s gambitdeclined game developed along the usual lines. The middle game was a stern fight for positions, and after heavy exchanges it appeared that the result might be a draw. Through an oversight, Gyles failed at the 52nd move to guard a square and afterwards had to resign.
