SATURDAY'S GOLF

Barraud Service Cup EKSTEDT THE WINNER Tho fcaturo of Saturday’s play at Hokowhitu was the annual competition 1 for tho Barraud Service Cup, which is open to ex-service men. Tho competition was played in conjunction with tho October bogey and it was won by A. E. Ekstedt, the cx-Artilleryman returning a fine card of 1 up on the Colonel after an indifferent start. Next in order were J. F. Field and C. J. Hay, who were one down. Following are the leading scores:— A. E. Ekstedt, 1 up. J. F. Field, 1 down. C. J. Hay, 1 down. E. B. Lucas, 2 down. F. L. C. Scrivener, 3 down. Ekstedt was partnered with K. S. Glcndinning, and after halving tho first hole in 4, he dropped the next three in. a row, the third being the one where ' he, a plus man, had to concede tho * Colonel a stroke. The fireworks started at Strang’s (about 533 yards). Glendinning hit a very long ball nearly up to tho cross bunker and slightly out to the right. Ekstedt covered the pin with his, and'with a No. 3 iron, planted his *' second on the green about 20 feet short *of the pin. Glendinning took out a mashio and he laid his second stono * dead. Ekstedt missed the threo by a couple of inches and Glendinning sank his putt for the eagle. Ekstedt was 2 down and after halving the next three he dropped the ninth, being 3 down at .the turn. Glendinning was playing sensational golf in patches and his putt for tho 3 at .Riverside, stopped on the . lip of the hole. It was coming home, that Ekstedt set it alight. He halved tho tenth and (eleventh and was 3 down with seven No play. A 2 ad Lagoon Hill reduced ■the deficit and after Ti Ti’s had been halved in 5, he played from a bunker to the green at Kraal and ran down the putt for a win in 3. He squared the match with another birdie at Barraud’s and a 4 at the sixteenth put him :5n front with two to play. He was ■ down in 4’s at the next two and was 1 up, and he was required to sink a long putt on the home green to retain the lead. His card, showing the remarkable scoring on tho second half, read: — Out: 4554455 3 4 —39. Inj 44:25344:4 4 —34« OCTOBER BOGEY. SWINDELL AND JACOBS TAKE THE HONOUKS.
