Hundreds of tons of cliff collapsed at Lowestoft, sending gardens tumbling into the sea and leaving the houses within a few feet of the cliff edge. Thirty-foot waves washed the roof off tho pier pavilion at Scarbarough, where the seafront was littered with chimney pots and tiles. Bridlington Bay is crowded with sheltering ships.
